(Caveat: If you're grieving a child, this may not be helpful.)
If you can, spend some time around young kids.
I had a fabulous morning today. My niece Tai and her two kids came to the Bay Area and I got to have dim sum with them, my brother Phil, Zoe, Ryan, and Rose Clurman, an old family friend. My goodness, did I have fun with the kids!
I learned a new dance (involving a pineapple, coconuts, peaches and a banana - let your imagination soar!) from Jackson, Isabelle announced that she'd love me to visit them, but I also needed to bring Ryan and Zoe. And we all ate Filipino ice cream (see photo of me and Isabelle with ube ice cream mustaches). They were magic personified and a better mood lifter I've never had.
There is something about the open curiosity and silliness of children that I find exhilarating. All your crap drops away and they make you laugh. Tai and Eric are doing such a great job raising these two children.
